Description: Audio field recording
Notes: This all black, about 1 cm long, female wasp was digging a hole. The buzzing sounds were made inside the hole, after each buzz she backed out of the hole dragging a bit of sand/dust. Once digging was completed she flew about 2 meters away, picked up a dead catapillar, and carried it under her abdomen while walking. She carried it on the ground but seemed to be lost. She dropped the catepiller, flew back to locate the hole, then went back and picked up the catepillar and walked it to the hole. She dragged it down the hole, was down there for a minute, then came out and began to bury the catepillar with sand and dust. She topped it off with bits of dried grass and twigs carried from up to 10 cm away and carefully placed on the burial site. Finally, you can hear her fly away, job done. ?Tiphid wasp
