Explore the sounds of America's western grasslands
Grasslands environments around the world include prairies, savannas, steppes, and pampas. What they are called depends on the geography where the grassland occurs. In the United States, grasslands are usually called prairies. Grasslands are found in areas where it is too dry to support forests and too wet to be called deserts. Our American grasslands, or prairies, support a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Many of the sounds of these animals can be heard in this Acoustic Atlas collection.
