Description: White Sulphur Springs resident John McGuire talks about a harrowing trip that his sister and brother took on horesback after a winter storm. The trip was just after Christmas in 1941 and his brother George and sister Marie needed to return to college after visiting the family for the holiday. As McGuire tells it, the snow was too deep for a car to travel along the dirt road to the ranch, so his sister and brother rode horses more than seven miles back to the road to find a ride. When the two reached the road, they removed the bridles from the horses and set the horses loose to return to the ranch. When the horses returned without the bridles, the parents knew that their children had made it to the road safely. The interview is mixed with the sounds of horses and original music. It was produced by Jeff Rice for the Acoustic Atlas.
